Greetings Volunteers,

First and foremost, I want to thank you and let you know how much we appreciate your willingness to donate your time and efforts for the children of Lester Park School.  Engaging children in today’s learning can be a difficult task, and although teachers are unbelievably skilled at their jobs, your contributions can make all the difference in the achievement of our students.

As we welcome volunteers to school each day we must also take great consideration for student safety. Please understand that our protocols are in place to do just that, protect All children.

If you are a person who will be volunteering, but will have no independent supervision of students you are asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Prior to volunteering,  please give the person with whom you are volunteering your Full Name (including any previous last names) and Birthdate.  The school is required to run a mini background check on all people volunteering who have not had one done with our school within a years’ time. (Click the link to fill out an On-line Mini Background Check Application Form).
  • On the day of volunteering, sign in at the office in the green book and pick up an orange visitor sticker.  The sticker must be worn and visible while you are in the building. This allows all staff to know that you have signed in at the office and are cleared to be on the Lester Park School property.
  • When you complete your volunteer time, return to the office and sign-out.

If you are a person who will be volunteering and will have independent supervision of students you are asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Prior to volunteering, you are required to complete a full background check that is conducted through the Duluth Public Schools Human Resources Department at Historic Old Central School, 215 North First Ave., Duluth, MN 55802.  This full background check requires volunteers to fill out background information and submit a $20.00 fee, paid at the time of submission of paperwork to the Human Resources Department (Room 200).

Volunteers are welcome to begin their service once information has been submitted.  Please know that you will only be notified if the results of your background check indicate that a record has been found.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in supporting child safety!
